Commissioned by the international art consultancy Art-Link, APTUM designed a large-scale installation for a luxury cruise ship. The brief was both specific and imaginative: to create a sculptural work with the spatial and poetic qualities of our light installations—yet without using any actual light.
The piece had to respond to light solely through reflection, and feature a completely open structure—transparent and airy, allowing views through it from every angle.
Inspired by the flowing, organic forms of a seashell, we created a metallic, transparent line drawing, finished with a coating in various shades of blue. The sculpture captures and reflects ambient light, subtly shifting in tone and character with the ship’s movement and the passing of the day. Its form evokes both marine life and motion, radiating a sense of calm and energy at once.
APTUM was responsible for the entire process: from concept development and technical design to fabrication and on-site installation. The result is a luminous presence—without emitting any light.
